More Flowers

Its been a while, but look what iv done.....
I was going to use waffle fabric for my centers but it was to bulky and frayed to much so.
I have gone with plain white, im not sure if ill stitch any thing in them or leave it plain.
Its a lot of stitching and i have a lot of projects i want to do.
I have 45 stitched flowers, 22 waiting to be stitched

and about 32 waiting to be glued.

Im keeping it scrappy so any fabric i find that will fit 6 hexies i use, but im running out unless i start using some of my darker country colours, ive been lucky to keep it with softer colours.

What do you think buy some fabric or could i go with some darker fabric?

I think i have about 95 all up.

My mother has also start, she is also doing scrappy but her colours are country.

She is also enjoying it but her hands do get a bit sore after doing a couple a night(so do mine)

Keep up withthe up dates, its great to see all the combinations

Till next post Sharyn

Pile of Hexi Blooms

It is quite amazing how quickly this pile has grown......
It may have something to do with the fact
 that I have been  "Hexed"......*Grin*

They sure look pretty all together.....
Usually I get a bit sick of looking at the same project after a while but that has definitely not happened with these little beauties......
Until next time, Happy Stitching

Its Been a While

Yes it has been some time since I was here last.
Thought it about time to post my latest contribution to the Hexie Challenge.
I have yet to decide on the joining hexies, really don't have the time to embroider them.

Some of these still have papers in them.

I made another six last night, they are still to be pressed I am working my way through the fat quarter pile, so my colours are about to change soon.
Hope they all look good together.
So check back here to follow the progress.

My take and progress on the Hexagon Quilt

Hi ladies, this is my first time posting here so a super BIG hi to everyone.  I have really enjoyed looking at every ones progress and it is lovely to see all the quilts now coming together.

I am new to quilting so I was not sure how I would go with the original version and never having hand stitched such a large project before I was a little shy of it so I decided to go for a larger Hexagon first time around.

As you can see I have also squared off my quilt as I think that I will add a wide white boarder and then hand stitch a flower design all the way around.

I also still have two flowers to stitch on every white Hexagon .... I am slowly but surely getting there.

I am thinking that I will give the bigger quilt a go when this one is nearing completion.

Enjoy your day and happy Stitching,

Pill Bottles and Hershey's Syrup Cans

My first impression of this project was "another work in progress". But then, I caught the virus called "Hexagonitis". There is no cure except a finished quilt. Oh, the agony of have such a wicked, wicked disease. Family and friends don't understand. They just roll their eyes at you and hope that it will quickly run its course. Or, perhaps your husband has decided to nickname them Pixies just so that you will talk to him when you inform him for the thousandth time that they are "Hexies". He just lovingly smiles and is grateful that it is summer vacation and that I have time to play with fabric and still have time to make him dinner.

Side effect have been described as 'mis-shaped fingernail' and 'indistinguishable fingerprints' on the hand where the needle rubs. When you are not sewing these little beauties together, the marks are still there beckoning you to come back to them.

Thanks to my Cricut cutter at least I didn't get the 'side-effect' of 'scissor marks' from cutting out all those paper hexies. I was able to cut the freezer paper hexies with this little guys help.

Then I cut my fabric in 2 inch strips and placed the hexies for ironing. I was able to get 18 on a strip, so I ended up with 3 flowers of each fabric.

After ironing them on and cutting them apart, all that was left was two little snips. Now they were ready to be basted. I opted to hand baste, I wanted make the whole thing by hand. I guess I am a glutton for punishment.

So....What do pill bottles and Hershey's syrup cans have to do with a beautiful quilt? Organization that's what! You have to have some place to store all those bits of wonderful fabric that have been lovingly cut into beloved six-sided shapes--Hexagons. The pill bottles hold my basted 1.5 inch hexies and the syrup cans hold the ones that are waiting to be basted. It is easy to pop a can or bottle into my purse for sewing anywhere.

I love seeing them sewn together into flowers. It is like waiting for the seeds to germinate in the soil and finally they are ready to bloom. As of last night, I have 88 flowers complete, with one embroidered connecting hexie.

This has been a great project to start. I do not have the magazine so I am not up on whatever the third issue was about but I am gleaning a lot of information from others who have posted here. Thank you so much. I am inspired by each of you.

Two rows done!

I haven't posted here for a while as the hexagons had been put to one side!  I'm pleased to say that I picked them up again last Friday and have managed to sew my first two rows together.
Only five more rows to go!!
Happy stitching everyone, Wendy

I've stitched and stitched...

and laid out a couple more rows to work on tonight. I am very surprised how quickly it is coming together. I'm also hoping that when I get into town tomorrow issue three might be waiting for me. If not I suppose I wait longer LOL. I've also got one of my mum's very old large hexagons to finish too and it has a wonderful mix of fabrics, but also its fair share of polycotton too, from dresses etc that she made for us as children. My girls think I'm mad when I show them a print I remember wearing LOL. Certainly not today's style!

Sorry about the bulge in the quilt as the doogie didn't think it was time to be up and about!

Hexagons and More Hexagons

With the help of Jacky Mister I have finally
paired up the second half of my fabrics .......
It was a tedious job as I didn't want to repeat a combination.....
I know what you are thinking......Obsessive Compulsive!
Well you are right *Grin*....
After the decision was finalised I set about gluing......
That's 31 glued and 39 to go.........

I still have a couple of completed rows to join
together so I can get some more papers.....

It is a bit like robbing the rich to give to the poor *Grin*.....

I am very close to being able to say that I have Hexagons in yardage....
It sure feels nice to have them on my lap joined together.....
And so soft with the papers out....
 Until next time, Happy Stitching

My hexagons

I have so loved looking at all the hexagons made so far and all the wonderful colour combinations.  I've been working on mine - will put some photos on tonight.  I'm dividing mine between this quilt and another that I have been working on for some time.  I'm hoping to get it finished in the near future.  I'm up to the final borders and want to use hexagons rather than a pieced border which is what is in the original pattern.  I've been procrastinating for some time.  I know that I just need to do it!!  I also haven't started any stitched hexagons for the extras.  I've traced some but haven't done any stitching yet.

Photos soon.

I Finally started

I would like to thank Katherine for helping me get set up with my little operation here. I have cut out 580 hexies from a roll of 22 strips of fabric. I was able to get 20 out of a strip. I am now working on my 1" paper hexies, I think I have about 125 or so. Once I have 520, that will be enough to start making flowers. I have no idea how big this project will be. We shall see. I also wanted to thank Kate and others for their inspiring posts and let you know how darn excited I am. Jeanne

Stitched Hexi's

I have been busy cutting lots of these from pelon......

And ironing them on the back of these........

Then I chose some co-ordinating threads from by box......

And started stitching these........

I have finished two rows and joined them together so
now I am stitching the ones between the rows.....

They look really sweet....

And the colour combinations are endless.....
I am freeing up some of my papers for the next lot of blooms....

It will be a good way to use up some DMC threads.....
Until next time, Happy Stitching

My pink flower garden

My pink flower garden is slowly growing. I have a few more flowers now than on this photo.
Again I have been cutting fabrics for more flowers.
It is so relaxing basting the hexagons in the evening after a day at work.
There is nothing like make a flower more.
Or what do you think? :-)
I have afew fillers stiched; but I am ot sure whether I want to have some plain hexagons between or want them all stitched.

Newbie Here ;-)

Hi y'all! ;-)
I've been following this blog for awhile now and I am
in awe with all the super cute hexie flowers you are all
making..... they are Beautiful!!!!
I'm a quilting newbie and these are going to be
my very first hexies ever!
I got myself a jewerly drawer organizer to keep myself
somewhat organized and just about an
hour ago -2:00am USA Eastern Time-
finished cutting the fabric for a few hexies and
packed them along other supplies
to be able to make them while out of town.
For now I plan in using mostly solids in pastels tones
that I bought for a different project but didn't use.
I hope to acquire confidence in this technique
(and see if I can then tackle the In Stitches BOM... lol...
I got a bit intimidated)!
Thanks for having me!

A gift for us

Joanne over at Possum blossom patchwork has kindly sent me some packets of pre cut hexagons to share with my hexagon buddies on this blog. some are 1 inch and others are 1 1/2 inch.
Over the next few weeks I thought we could have some giveaways of these packets. So stay tuned for more.
If you get time pop over to Joanne's web site and check out all the paper piecing supplies she has.

Happy sewing ladies.

A rainy afternoon

A rainy old afternoon meant the kids wanted to sit and watch DVD's. This also meant that mum could make some hexies.

Here are some bright happy colourful hexies to brighten up a gloomy Sunday afternoon.

I am slowly getting them done!

I have joined a row together and now I have about 7 or so rows to go.

I have several 'flowers' sewn together waiting for me to sew them together into rows with the white hexie to join them.

and also have built up my supply of hexie flowers

Now that I have Vignette #3 I now know what to do to finish the quilt of hexies. But it's a long way away for me as I am doing the Vignette In Stitches also and another project.
Hope to get them done soon.
Hugs to all and thanks for looking :)

Finished Rows and some more Hexagon Prep....

I have finished half of my Hexi flowers.....70 in total.....
And I have now cut the other 70........
Now for the big decision of what colours to put
together for the second half of my Hexi Quilt......
These are my first three and a half rows so far.......
And lots of gluing..........I am really loving my glue pen......
Imagine how much slower it would be if I was basting them....
Miss Molly and I are off to Sydney for The State Championships Netball
3 day weekend tomorrow so the Hexi's will be coming
along for in between games and nights in the motel.....
The boys are heading to Maitland for Basketball.....

Until next time, Happy Stitching

Now I'm Organised...

I picked up one of these handy storage containers from Lincraft the other day to store all my hexagons, and all my necessary equipment, for my 'Hexagon Quilt". It cost around $14.99 and holds quite a few hexagons...It's nice to be organised!!
And you can then take your stitching with you wherever you go!!

Until Next Post..
