A Friday "HEXAGON" Finish

I have to admit that I have neglected the laundry to get this one over the finish line but I am glade that I did as I am so pleased with how it has turned out and take two worked like a charm :o)

I cut away the white fabric at the back like what was mentioned in Vignette.
This made the quilting process easier, unlike my first attempt :o(

Finished Size is 56" Square

With this finish there will be another beginning ............ With the help of my "Go Baby" I am going to make another!  This time a little smaller. The hexagons will only be 1" cut so about 3/4" finished.  I haven't started yet but I have ordered the hexagon papers :o)

I am off now to catch up in the Laundry so I can then go and get another project across this finish line.

If you would like to see some more photos they are on my BLOG HERE.

Enjoy your weekend,
Sharon

Second time around

I'm going to try again.

Some may remember that I have already tried to quilt this one once before and it all got caught up and in a huge mess that I pulled out all the quilting and put it away safely for a while.  Well I had it hanging on the side of my cabinet but I have now pulled off and have decided to give it another go.

After my last attempt

It's been hanging like this for the last couple of months.
Plan this time around ...... a little machine quilting around the "flowers" and a little hand quilting in the centres. Once this is done I will decide if I want to go with the lines like Leanne has done with hers in Vignette.

I found a cute Pink spot fabric for the backing this time around.

Wish me luck!

Enjoy your creativity,
Sharon

a little progress.....

14 hexagons completed, a LOT more to go

I decided to play with elements of the "Vignette" quilt embroidery for some of the neutral embroidered hexagons

Have another 30 or so fabrics to cut before I have to think about repeating one

My favourite is currently Magoo the Monkey

and a BIG thank-you to my husband.....he does the fussy cutting for me!!

I have 69 flowers

I did a count of all my flowers yesterday and found out I have 69 made.  I would never have thought!  Isn't it amazing how they grow - and there have been many weeks where I haven't had the chance to tend them at all.  Makes me want to really get into it.  I traced out the 59 hexies for the embroidered flowers - so they're under way.  Will get some photos very soon.

Cheers

I haven't blogged here for a while but I recently got my hexies out again and did lots of sewing while watching the Rugby World Cup.  I have now finished 80 hexie flowers and sewn them together to make four rows ...

Three more rows to go!

That "Swear Word" Moment!

I was trimming the white borders on my Hexagon quilt
and as I got to each corner I used the rulers'
corner to get a nice square edge....
As I rounded my fourth corner I realised I had made
a terrible mistake and had cut it 4 inches from
the inner Hexi and not the outer Hexi.....
 What the  F%$#*
Oh dear what have I done!!!!!
Not Happy and that is all I have to say.....

Guess What I found ?!?

I was going through my stray block box, and towards the bottom I found this teeny tiny hexie cluster. The hexies measures 1/4 inch. "Yikes", what was I thinking!!!!!
This is the whole piece. As you can see I didn't get to far. Now, what do I do with it?? Any ideas??
Here it is close to the new hexies I'm currently working on. I have 10 made so far. Come over to my blog for a visit when you get a chance and say "Hello".  Cheers-- Sandra Kaye

Checking in.....

My Vignette hexagon quilt is coming along nicely. I have just finished 26 more flowers and am a little over half ways there. Yay 66 flowers finished. I have "pappered" up another 50 and will start sewing again soon. Just not enough hours in and evening. Plus we are in school, holidays at the moment so there is less waiting for kids at bus stations and school so my tag along project has slowed.
This colourway hexagons have been removed from the quilt. There were just too many of the same so I have decided to make a table runner with them. After all it is supposed to be scrappy.

Happy Hexagons

Started the Borders....

Last night while I was waiting on a couple of loads of washing
I got busy joining my white border fabric for my Hexagon quilt....
Then after some smoothing and pinning.....
 And more smoothing and pinning.....
I took the papers out of the top edge and pinned
it all down with my tiny applique pins......
All ready to start stitching down.....
I don't know why but I am feeling a bit nervous about doing it....
Until next time, Happy Stitching

Garden of Hexies

Hello Hexagon Quilt ladies! This is my first post, even though I have been following since the blog launched. I've been stitching away for months and I am now ready to now create blocks, then rows. Thank goodness for the glue pen, or I would not have tackled this project. There is not enough chocolate in the world to remedy all that basting by hand... My fab is Moda's Rose Parade (for most hexies) but a few others from my stash had to join the party. Keep posting everyone because it's very inspirational. Thanks LeeAnn for stirring up a huge following on this darling pattern. Boy, do I wish I could just pick up a copy of Vignette in my local quilt shop, but I order it online via Texas, then have to wait-wait-wait for the mail to arrive.  Happy stitching! My Batik Hexagon Quilt

Love all the inspiration I get on this blog from all of you who truly understand the addiction hexies can be. lol  I worked like crazy last year on this and then went on a sort of 'hexi-break'. Blasphemy, I know. :) I picked it up a couple of weeks ago and I think 2-3 more rows of flowers should do it. The hexies are 1" batiks and english paper pieced (love EPP). Here's a pic of where I am...

Thanks for looking! :)
hugs, di

Brand New Hexie Girl!!

Hello,  everyone my name is Sandra Kaye. This my first post on this blog. I have been wanting to join you all for awhile. I really love hexagon quilts. They have always captured my fancy :):) I have started 3 hexagon quilts in my life..sadly never finished. But, this blog has inspired me to dig them out and have a look and carry on. Only... I didn't like them ....so what is a girl supposed to do now??? Oh, let's start again. :):) Here are the first few blocks I have done. Someone said, once that you measure a hexie by the length of one side..right? If, so then my hexies are 1/2 inch. I want to do them all in scraps. And I'm thinking about setting them in Black. !?! umm.. not sure, but I have time since I just started. I hope you like them.. Thanks again for letting me join you all. Here's to Happy Hexagon's !!  Hugs-- Sandra

It is all coming back to me - a scatterbrained quilter in action!

As you know I have had trouble deciding what fabric to use in my very first hexagon quilt. I have wondered about it several times, always landing on using my scraps, but with a feeling that I was leaving something out. What was it I couldn`t remember?? Think, think, think!

The mystery got solved today when I went to my mailbox. Of course!! I ordered these scrap fabrics from Piece O`Cake Designs, with the purpose to use them in the quilt. How could I forget?? (Well, of course I could, it is a wonder I remember to brush my teeth in the morning).

The colors are much brighter than I normally use. A bit out of my comfort zone you might say, but that is also why it is fun. I think it is my friend Lena who has influenced me :) She is a genious with colors.

Have fun sewing!

Getting set!

Finally the postman brought me a very important parcel, my bulk pack of 1" hexagon (600 pieces). Can`t really get much done without them.

Last night I bought two of these cute Tilda boxes, and this one is for storing my hexagons. No kiddis or doggis will be touching my hexies! I will start working on my scrap pile very soon, after I have finished reading "Run you own Marathon" by Grete Waits a.o. It is a fantastic book, I am halfway through allready and I started yesterday. I tell you, if you have a dream of becoming a jogger, marathon or no marathon, this is the book for you! You can start from scratch and still achieve your goal. I dare you to go for it!!

Have fun sewing!

My sad hexagons :(

Now I am back to my addiction, tis been about 6 weeks :( as I have been making quilts for my grandsons. I delivered the last quilt yesterday and my daughter was excited!!
You need to be careful where you store your hexis ....as my current hexagons flowers disappeared!!! The toddlers that 'roam my house' only muttered  "Mummys sewing OUTSIDE"...... Arghhh!!! with only the moonlight to guide me I found the centres scattered on the cubby house floor and my hexagons flowers floating in the dog bowl....

I think they can be saved with a little bit of love....Im thankful I have a full stack of hexis to keep me going thou...

So dont get discouraged if you are a little behind...think of me and my hexis floating in the dog bowl.....

Happy Stitching
Deb :)
