there is always a late starter

I challenged a friend to start this hexie stitch-along, and then was really, really slow to start myself. however, a few weeks ago I finally got into gear and made a start, I am using a Kiwiana jelly roll, packaged hexie papers and a glue pen, .....talk about taking the easy way out!
I now have most of the hexies made or near made, and only need to stitch them into hexie "blocks"... and start on the hexi stitcheries... but that will come.
I have these made so far
so now I am in catch up mode

A few more done...

Has been a little while since I've done a post on the blog here. Slow but steady progress....am enjoying seeing them grow. Painting walls has been happening at our place this week, so have been pretty tired at the end of the day, so not much stitching happening. Was nice to have a couple of times to sit and stitch a hexagon. Happy stitching!

Final Layout

Wow I have loved reading what everyone else has been doing, you are all so amazing!  Its incredible how addictive these little flowers can be.  I know with me, half of the addiction is the ability to cart the project everywhere I go.

I have finished all the blooms (except one), and decided on the final layout, so now I am in the middle of making my blocks.

This quilt is for my daughter who loves rainbows.  Mum and I slightly moved some of the flowers around since this photo.

I was one pink flower short, but had a red one and a few yellow left over.  I plan on using these left overs and some earlier flowers where I discovered that I had cut the paper templates wrong, scattered on a fleece blanket and pillowcase to match.

I've decided to go with plain white inserts, I had already drawn the flowers but we felt they melted into the rest of the flower garden too much.

Happy Hexy Stitching!!!

Out of work

Last week I purchased the background fabric (thanks for all the tips), it became yellow. Sadley I can't go further because I have an allergic reaction on my finger from a patch. Hopefully I can soon move on with my project.

New Stitcher

Hi everyone!  My name is Leonie and I'm from the Adelaide Hills  I'm a new stitcher-new to this blog, and new to quilting-although I have been cross stitching and embroidering for quite a while.  I haven't made a start yet as I am waiting on supplies.  I'm really looking forward to this as it will be portable and using hand sewing which won't be too far out of my comfort zone.  I'll be using stash fabric, as I have quite a substantial stash for a new quilter ;)

It's never going to be quilted at this rate......

Ohh Help Me!!!!!  What a week of ups and downs in my creative space.

Earlier in the week I had my Hexagon quilt all "sandwiched" together ready to go for some hand quilting.  I was so pleased that I was within reach for a finish .... not just a top Finnish but a complete finish and what made even more exciting was that I had promised myself that I could have a real play with my new toy, my Go Baby if I got a real finish.

Well my hexagon quilt went from this

then to having 8 hexagons hand quilted (sorry didn't get a pic of this bit) which involved working on it every spare minute I had when things started to fall apart....literally. I had used a basting spray and then pinned the quilt and to my disgust the basing spray wasn't sticking so I tried to do some border quilting to help hold the fabric.  I thought this was working until yesterday morning when I sat and assessed the situation.   Lets let some photos show you what happened next ..........

I thought I could just unpick some bits to fix and go from there.........

Nope ...... In my utter disgust at the state of my quilt, I unpicked it ALL and am going to have to start again.

It is now hanging on the side of my storage unit waiting my attention :(

One positive thing for my poor quilt top is that I have decided to Bind it in the same fabric as the border!

Thank you EVERYONE for your suggestions on the border fabric it has been GREATLY APPRECIATED.

I am loving the progress that everyone is sharing here.

Happy stitching, Sharon

So Afraid of the Scrappies

This is my progress to date... 48 out of 140, no stitchery hexagons done yet. I just had a thought that maybe if I had a white background I would get a better feel for them, but mostly, I'm not so sure I like scrappy... maybe my tastes in fabric in general only work if I use the bits that actually go together?

I dunno what do you lovely flower hexie makers think?
I think I am just envious of all the pretty colour coordinated ones I've seen all of you making...
*sigh*

Garden

This week I finished my garden but I now have to choose the colour for my backgroud. My friend said yellow, but the only yellow I have is to light. Any suggestions?

Sharyngee's Quilting: HALF WAY

Sharyngee's Quilting: HALF WAY: "Getting there just over half way......
Its amazing how quick they do come together.

Im now running out of paper templates so im going ..."

Blooms All Done!!!

All 140 Blooms are stitched......(Happy Dance).....
They looked so nice all piled up.....
I then set about sorting them into rows that
I was happy with for the final layout.......

After much deliberation this was what I decided
they would look like when all joined together......

They now need to be joined into blocks with the
white ones added to be embroidered later......
Until next time, Happy Stitching

At Last ..... progress

I have spent a few late nights recently working on this, finishing off the hand embroidered flowers and hand stitching the top to the white background and when it was done I wasn't happy. It lacked something and I didn't know what the "something" was so I put it away again.

Yesterday I was cleaning and organising  "my space" (sorting my scrap fabric pile) and found some more fabric from this line (Sunkissed) that I forgot I had and with that came the "something" I was looking for ..........  What do you think?

The "Something" is the border :o)
It needed a frame and now I LOVE IT!

Yes, every flower is a different color

My quilt is not as big as the one in the Magazine, mine measures 55" (140cm) square and the hexagon's are larger.

I am planning on Hand Quilting this one and at this stage I will be quilting around every flower. I am not sure if it will all be on the one color or if I will mix that up a little.

Now I need some HELP ...........

What color would YOU do the binding in?

My "Arty" son thinks the Green and my DH thinks the Orange. Your suggestions would be appreciated.

Looking forward to some feedback on this.

Happy stitching,
Sharon
