So Afraid of the Scrappies

This is my progress to date... 48 out of 140, no stitchery hexagons done yet. I just had a thought that maybe if I had a white background I would get a better feel for them, but mostly, I'm not so sure I like scrappy... maybe my tastes in fabric in general only work if I use the bits that actually go together?

I dunno what do you lovely flower hexie makers think?
I think I am just envious of all the pretty colour coordinated ones I've seen all of you making...
*sigh*

  1. I think that it looks great but if you are not happy with scrappy you could always change the layout a little by surrounding each flower in white Hexies. A bit like framing them. Try laying down a whire sheet or fabric and spread them out and see what you think then ... maybe even post another pic?

I still think scrappy looks good though. Keep up the great work.

  2. I am in the same boat as you, mine is also scrappy and I have also admired the coordinated hexies. I have started to stitch the fillers but I am now thinking I will match them to my border and not have any stitching. I love the look of your quilt. It is fun and funky. I am very critical of my own doings....... :)

  3. Keep working on them, they are beautiful...sometimes we work so hard on a project we can't see the beauty in it anymore, just what we think we don't like. Walk away for a few days and I bet you will like it, they look very nice together. Changing the flower placement will probably help some too (spread some of your green flowers around.) Don't give up now! :)

  5. I'd put in some white. That's what I'm going to do because mine is also scrappy.

  7. I like you garden !!
    If I may ..
I started mine scrappy too and decided that instead of just putting the flowers all random I tried to pair them with other to compliment each other
Like yellow and orange and flowers and the go next to brown and green. Try to change the arrangement and take a picture and then arrange again and so on
and then look at the pictures and see which one you like better
    It works for me :)
    Good luck

  8. As I laid my hexies out I felt the same way. I tried using white to add an element to tame those petals. I hated the starkness of the white, It actually increased the business rather than toning down. I added Navy, Didn't like that either. I finally auditioned a pale yellow. Now that's what I am talking about. It worked, the top now looks like the hexies are working together rather than fighting, and God know I hate conflict in my life. LOL

  10. I like the scrappy look but if you're still not convinced, try taking away one of the colours. You might find it will bring the rest of them together. And by putting it on a white background is certainly helpful. Good Luck, they're looking great. I just got my papers and am about to start my hexies.

  12. The scrappy hexes are beautiful! Dont' compare yours to others. Be different and I think you will love it when you are finished. You can always do a 2nd one in all coordinated colors. But that gets dull too after a while. :o)

  13. I am with you, 60 hexies down & I am freaking out about how they look together especially when I see ones out of a jelly roll or single fabric range. Marta had some good ideas with the photos so think I might try that & put drifts of colour rather than totally random. I figure that they are so relaxing to make that the end result is not all the benefit I am getting out of this anyway. Good luck! Tracee xx
