At Last ..... progress

I have spent a few late nights recently working on this, finishing off the hand embroidered flowers and hand stitching the top to the white background and when it was done I wasn't happy. It lacked something and I didn't know what the "something" was so I put it away again.

Yesterday I was cleaning and organising  "my space" (sorting my scrap fabric pile) and found some more fabric from this line (Sunkissed) that I forgot I had and with that came the "something" I was looking for ..........  What do you think?

The "Something" is the border :o)
It needed a frame and now I LOVE IT!

Yes, every flower is a different color

My quilt is not as big as the one in the Magazine, mine measures 55" (140cm) square and the hexagon's are larger.

I am planning on Hand Quilting this one and at this stage I will be quilting around every flower. I am not sure if it will all be on the one color or if I will mix that up a little.

Now I need some HELP ...........

What color would YOU do the binding in?

My "Arty" son thinks the Green and my DH thinks the Orange. Your suggestions would be appreciated.

Looking forward to some feedback on this.

Happy stitching,
Sharon

  1. Hmmmm....Maybe the same as the border so it doesn't take away from the Hexzgons.....

  2. The border looks fantastic. It makes your centre pop. Kate may have something with the binding though.

  11. Why don't you do what both your son "Arty" and your DH suggested? Make a scrappy binding.

Or - place some of the fabric on the outside so you can get an idea of what each look like, and take a photo so we can have a visual.

  12. i'm wondering what feel you want... eye traveling across whole thing from border to border... something of a darker value. Want eyes to focus on center, the outer only gently framing your hexies? I like White, then your border is gently framed. It is beautiful.

  15. Love your quilt Sharon. Totally love Sunkissed. I have made a quilt from that line too!
As for binding, I would choose the same as the outer border or go with green if it were me!

  16. Wow, great to see this Sharon. I'm curious how the green would look actually. Someone above suggested photos with the options, I think that would be the best way to work out which one to go with.

  17. Wow! Your quilt looks gorgeous... so delicate. I'd bind it in the same fabric as the border too but that's just personal taste. Go with whatever is right for YOU!
Looking forward to seeing your progress with the quilting.

  18. I love it & yes the border has made it pop. Will be keen to see what you decide for the binding. Without seeing it close up I would hate to make a choice but I love a border & binding the same especially if the centre is the focal point. Good luck! Tracee xx

  19. That is totally fantastic... I agree with your 'arty' son and would lean toward green - not sure what his reasoning is, mine is orange and pink are similar hues and green is the complementary colour for orange and would work well to frame it :)

But no matter what you chose, it will still loook amazing!
